Drops Some Details,Big Screen CAPTAIN AMERICA Director and Does the world need a Superman (movie)?

Today's big news was of course the announcement that Warner Bros is in fact going ahead with yet another Superman reboot. That's not terribly surprising, as various litigation involving the heirs of Superman creators Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel has made it of paramount importance that Warner Bros gets a new Superman film off the ground by 2011. But what is genuinely shocking is that Chris Nolan has been brought on to apparently 'oversee' the film. He's not (as of yet) directing it,
And the equally good news is that the Chris and John Nolan and David Goyer seem to be off and running with a third Batman picture, one that will be made on their schedule and at their discretion. But really, is Warner that stupid to presume that the work Nolan did on Batman makes him appropriate for Superman? Does anyone think that Superman Returns disappointed (in relation to expectations and its $270 million-budget) because it wasn't dark and gritty enough? Superman Returns underwhelmed because it was a confused film, unsure whether to be its own thing or a direct sequel to the Richard Donner Superman (and arguably, the Richard Donner cut of Superman II).
While doing the press rounds for his newest film "The Wolfman," which opens in theaters this Friday, director Joe Johnston obviously knew he was going to be bombarded with questions regarding his next film.

A guy with Johnston's impressive resume, which includes directing "Jurassic Park III" and "Jumanji" and doing visual effects work on the original "cc trilogy and "Raiders of the Lost Ark," knows you don't sign on to helm a movie like "Captain America" without the expectation of being asked about it at every possible opportunity. It's a pretty safe bet the nuggets of information released during his batch of interviews were carefully screened and selected tidbits meant to whet the appetite of anxious fanboys. An amuse-bouche, if you will
You couldn't do a modern-day Captain America," Johnston said, "and then go back and tell the World War II origin story."

The film will be bookended with scenes set in the present day that presumably will set the stage for "The Avengers" movie.

"That's the way this story ends. [Cap] is...at the end of this film, he's been brought back and been unfrozen, revived and he is definitely a fish out of water. He's a 1942 guy in 2012...it's going to be a lot of fun."

The Onside Kick, Tracy Porter’s Haircut, and the Saints Cheerleaders:Super Bowl Musings and Tracy Porter’s Hair Cut PHOTOS!

,
Left to right: Pick-six hero Tracy Porter shaved the Dome onto the back of his head, Drew Brees kisses his wife, Saints cheerleaders are giddy, and Drew Brees hoists his kid into the confetti-strewn air.

Sean Payton coached a brilliant game. He said he came up with the idea for the onside kick at halftime. Wonder if this is something he’d been planning for two weeks. A reach? Perhaps. Hear us out:

1) Payton took the ball first. The Ravens and Jets, which have better defenses, gave Indy the ball first. If you come into the game thinking you might drop an onside kick to open the 2nd half, you obviously take the ball first.

PHOTOS! Here again are pictures oft Tracy Porter’s Super Bowl hair cut. Saints’ Tracy Porter Super Bowl hair was covered on LALATE in the 2nd quarter Sunday. The Lombardi Trophy hair cut followed up a Pacman cut (above) just weeks before. By the 2nd half, Porter delivered one of the best plays ofSuper Bowl 2010.

In the end, Porter’s hair predicted it right.

large in spotlight Tim Tebow’s ego grows and What was your favorite commercial?

Former Florida Gator Tim Tebow is fast, powerful and makes a great deal of noise — and he has had his fair share of publicity. Whether he is crying on national television or nuzzling coach Urban Meyer, the nation is fascinated by him.

However, many of us have had enough of the controversy over Tim Tebow’s much-anticipated Super Bowl ad Sunday night and his unending off-field commentary.
Did your favorite win?

No, silly, not the New Orleans Saints (who did win) nor the Indianapolis Colts (who did not). We're talking about the important stuff for this morning's coffee-break gabfest. Who produced the best commercial for Super Bowl XLIV?

Was it one of the annual powers such as Budweiser, Doritos or GoDaddy.com? Or did an underdog sneak to the top, such as 2009's "Crazy Pets" spot for Pedigree Food For Dogs -- its first attempt at cashing in on Super Bowl fame.
The most pregame hype went to Tim Tebow and his mother, Pam, for their 32-second statement on abortion. The controversy was that the (actually quite subtle and, truthfully, a little cheap-looking) message was against abortion, as Pam Tebow had been advised by some physicians to have an abortion to protect her health. She (and all Florida Gators) were glad she chose to give birth. Tim Tebow made it clear that he was happy, too.

UFC 109 Live Stream and Continuous Updates and Colo. Trial Lawyers, Docs May End Up Agreeing On Transparency Bill

By Allie Winter, LAW WEEK COLORADO
Could it be that doctors and trial lawyers agree on something?
This week, Sen. Morgan Carroll, D-Aurora, introduced a bill with proposed changes to the Michael Skolnik Medical Transparency Act. Currently, the act, implemented in 2007, requires physicians licensed in Colorado to report information pertaining to their practice history.
UFC 109 live stream and continuous updates are important to UFC fans. UFC 109 features Couture vs. Coleman as the main event. The live streaming is very important, and if you haven’t had time to find where you will watch the fight you still have time.

One way to watch UFC 109 live is through Pay-per-View. This, of course, is expensive. That is why many people are searching for the UFC 109 live stream right on the internet

While the CTLA have not yet taken official position, Brown said the organization supports anything that allows consumers the ability to find out as much information about their doctors as possible. The Colorado Medical Society supports the legislation, spokeswoman Edie Sonn said.
In recent years, the two groups have come out on opposite sides of legislation that would raise certain caps on verdicts and settlements in medical malpractice cases.

Relief and excitement after big win WOMEN'S ONE DAY FINAL: Hard lesson for Blaze as CD winwomans

I am proud to say that the NSW Breakers are the 2009/10 Women’s National Cricket League Champions for the fifth consecutive season!

As a team we were both relieved and excited to defeat the Victorians at the MCG last Saturday.

It was a great comeback by the girls after a disappointing loss in the Twenty20 Final at the Adelaide Oval just one week before. A lot of things may have been under water yesterday but for Central Districts Hinds captain Aimee Watkins it was hard to dunk one particular thing - they had notched a double victory.

Watkins suspected it had something to do with spending most of the day cooped up in their motel rooms waiting for a clearance from the umpires on whether play would progress in the one-day final between CD and the hapless Wellington Blaze at Nelson Park, Napier, after Saturday's eight-wicket victory in the Twenty20 competition.

Beyonce Fearless With 6 Grammy Wins and Superb Performance, Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson's kids

Beyonce won six Grammys on Sunday, more than any woman on a single night in the 52 year history of the awards show. While we applaud her for her success in that regard. The most memorable part of the show was Beyonce's performance. Beyonce performed an excellent rendition of her hit song 'If I Were A Boy' at the 52nd annual Grammy awards show. Her performance was complete with a medley insertion of Alanis Morisette's 'You Oughta Know' before going back to performing the original song. One blogger was totally geeked about the performance:

Beyoncé broke a record and Michael Jackson's kids broke a few hearts at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

Beyoncé took home six Grammys, including Song of the Year for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" and pop vocal performance of the year for "Halo," to set a Grammy record for most awards won by a female artist on one show.

On a night dominated by a range of divas, Beyoncé went the route of classic pop elegance and scored for three different songs: "Halo" and "Single Ladies," which dominated radio charts last year, and "At Last," which won the Grammy for best traditional R&B performance.

Taylor Swift won four Grammys, including the prestigious Album of the Year award for "Fearless."

The usually cool Swift accepted it with the breathlessness of a giddy teenager, perhaps because unlike at the Video Music Awards, Kanye West didn't come on stage to drown her out.

The San Francisco Symphony won three Grammys for its live recording of Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony and the Adagio from the uncompleted Tenth Symphony. The disc won best classical album, bests choral performance for conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and choral conductors Ragnar Bohlin, Kevin Fox and Susan McMane, and best engineered classical album for Peter Laenger.

The show also included a special 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson featuring a video clip he made of "Earth Song" as Usher, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson sang along.

Jackson's young children, Prince and Paris, accepted a lifetime achievement award for their father, who died in June.

Is Big Brother Heading about National Park's Backcountry for Yellowstone?

What would you think if your travels in Yellowstone National Park's backcountry were being watched by rangers via a remote webcam? It's not out of the realm of possibility under a Wireless Communications Services Plan that the park adopted last spring.

Existing webcams within developed areas could be upgraded to wireless, or new wireless webcams could be installed in developed areas of the park if they are found to meet the siting criteria adopted by this FONSI. No wireless webcams for visitor use will be installed within backcountry areas of the park. It is possible that wireless monitoring cameras could be placed in backcountry areas for resource monitoring or to address safety concerns, but these will not be available for public viewing purposes. (emphasis added.)
BILLINGS, Mont. -- With 88 bison from Yellowstone National Park facing possible slaughter, billionaire Ted Turner has swept in and offered to hold the animals for five years on his sprawling Montana ranch while a new home for them is found. But Turner, ever the shrewd businessman, won't do it for nothing. The media mogul says he will care for the bison only if he can keep up to 90 percent of their offspring.
Dennis Tilton, a rancher from nearby Livingston who worked for a year feeding the animals under government contract, said giving the animals to Turner amounted to "robbing from the public domain." He said the state should put them onto public land to establish new herds.

Visiting Yellowstone National Park in mid-winter is a trip you're not likely to forget for the rest of your life. But how do you pull it off? Here's a primer on the logistics you'll need to tackle.

From Mammoth Hot Springs you also can drive a very short distance to a parking area at the Upper Terraces Area. From there you can cross-country ski along a marked trail or walk down through the terraces on a boardwalk.

There are warming huts where you can come in out of the cold and bask in the glow of a woodstove at Madison Junction, West Thumb, Old Faithful, Fishing Bridge, Canyon, Mammoth, and Indian Creek. Some have vending machines and cold beverages.

object width="425" height="344">Satellite imagery, gps stats, and a whole bunch of stuff definitely suggest that Yellowstone could very well be in trouble soon. Like the park floor has gone UP 8 inches in the last few months, while the surrounding area has dropped.

FYI: In 2007 Bush issued a gag warning to all USGS employees not to talk to the public about Yellowstone until Bush could sensor any new DATA. Go figure!

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AFP) – A roadside bomb attack targeted a former Pakistan provincial cabinet minister on Sunday, killing him and three other people in the country's restive northwest, police said.

The bomb exploded in Bagto village, about 10 kilometres (six miles) from the northwestern town of Hangu in an area with a history of sectarian clashes between Pakistan's majority Sunni Muslims Urdu (Urdu: اُردوُ, IPA: [ˈʊrduː] ( listen)) is a Central Indo-Aryan language[1][2] of the Indo-Iranian branch, belonging to the Indo-European family of languages. Day Bowl Games Recap New Year's

Florida crushed Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl in Tim Tebow's last game, 51-24. Bobby Bowden coaches Florida State to a Gator Bowl win in his last game. Ohio State won the Rose Bowl. Auburn and Penn State also get bowl game wins. (Jan. 2)

As much as the Buckeyes reveled in the win, jumping up and down and singing along to The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army," which has become the team's unofficial anthem, many players paused to ask how their fellow Big Ten schools did earlier in the day. Posey even took a break from smoking a victory cigar to see if Penn State and Northwestern had won their bowl games.

"We definitely needed to get that monkey off our back," said Posey, who had 101 yards on eight catches and one touchdown. "It was in the back of our minds. This is big for the Big Ten. We're all pulling for each other. I want to see Iowa win and I'm happy Penn State and Wisconsin won. We need to show that we're back."

If there was any question about that, Pryor pointed to the scoreboard one last time before he left the field. No other sign or play better signified the direction of Ohio State and the Big Ten than that.

The year in home entertainment 2009 in review

Economic uncertainty. Swine flu. Newspaper articles featuring Jon and/or Kate Gosselin. You can understand why most people will be happy to see 2009 exit stage left. And while I’m sure the folks at Apple headquarters may be sympathetic to all the 2009-related ennui out there, it’s also safe to say that the company may be a little sad to leave 2009 behind. After all, Apple had a really good year. And the Mac was a major reason why.

In recent years, it might have seemed that Apple took its eye off the Mac platform in favor of newer, shinier baubles like the iPod and (especially) the iPhone. (Dropping the word “Computer” from your company’s name helps foster that impression.) Not in 2009—while both the iPhone and iPod had their moments in the past year, the Mac enjoyed plenty of time in the spotlight. The past 12 months have seen Apple revamp its hardware offerings as well as the operating system that runs on them, with many of those changes helping fuel strong sales and profits at a time when other tech companies are scrounging for loose change among the couch cushions. And Apple shows every indication of continuing that momentum into the new year.

Here’s a look back at the major stories affecting Apple in the past year and what they mean for the company’s fortunes in 2010.

What’s in store for 2010?

With 2010 just around the corner, we’d be remiss if we didn’t don our Carnac the Magnificent turbans and prognosticate just a tad.

Apple TV subscription service Rumor has it that Apple is working on a TV subscription service for the iTunes Store that could see Disney and CBS as some of the first media companies signing on. In theory, you’d pay a flat fee ($30, say) per month and get access to participating TV shows and/or channels. As an alternative to cable or satellite, such a move could prove to be huge. Or not. At the very least, it could give the Apple TV new purpose on this earth.

Apple tablet I’m not going to waste your time (and mine) telling you what I think Apple’s mythical tablet will look like, although we have a clue now when we might see it. But it’s a pretty good bet that sometime in 2010, Apple will show off/introduce/talk about/ship a larger touchscreen device ideal for watching movies and TV shows, reading books and newspapers, and doing other things that people may care about. Enough said.
